Description
One of the heaviest blooming Camellias in existence, and blooming right through the winter months, ‘Yume’ is sure to keep your garden alive with fresh blooms during a time of year we need color most in the landscape, and when you least expect it! The bicolor white and pink flowers are produced in such abundance that they nearly cover the deep green foliage. She never fails to impress with her many blooms and with her 8 to 10′ upright stature. This Camellia can be planted in hedge groupings, alone as a focal specimen or is perfectly suited for espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall).
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and wide in 10 years, and kept smaller with a little annual pruning, the Yume Camellia is ideal for use as an accent, grouping, or hedge in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. As she grows taller, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive and colorful evergreen tree. Also perfect for use in pots, planters and other containers that can be brought indoors where this plant isn’t reliably winter hardy above USDA Zone 7a. Find Your Zone. A fine addition to winter gardens, pink theme gardens, camellia gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders.
Suggested Spacing: 5-6′ feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
