Description

One of the most unique flower colorations we’ve seen on any Hydrangea, ‘Pistachio’ is a reliable rebloomer from late spring through fall that features abundant clusters of multicolor flowers that open to chartreuse green with hints of pink. As the flowers age the pink deepens to a violet red while still holding on to chartreuse highlights. Wonderful for cut or dried flowers. What’s more, each flower has a small blue eye for extra added appeal. Pistachio’s compact size and shape to 3 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide makes it a good fit for smaller garden spaces and containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide, the Pistachio Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or as a colorful hedge in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Also excellent for use in pots, planters and other containers for season-long color on patios and around other outdoor living spaces. A fine addition to cut flower gardens, cottage gardens and Hydrangea gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  2.5 to 3 feet apart for solid hedges;  7 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Pistachio Hydrangea is easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, depending on your climate. Plants will tolerate full sun in northern zones however appreciate some afternoon shade or filtered sun in warmer southern zones. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day or all day lightly filtered sun for best flowering. This one produces buds on old and new wood, so even though it is tempting to cut them back in the winter, when they are only bare sticks jutting out of the ground, don’t do it. The flower buds are already formed and hidden in those bare sticks, so don’t cut them off if you want a spring flush of flowers!
